Lesung mit Gottfried Knapp und Helmut Dirnaichner
The three artists use their different materials to create pictorial bodies of extraordinary presence. The viewer embarks on a search for traces and discovers structures and subtleties that change depending on the incidence of light. They radiate an extraordinary haptic attraction that makes you pause and encourages contemplation.
Helmut Dirnaichner uses crushed stones, earth and minerals as a natural color palette. Scooped into cellulose, they permeate the fragile body of the picture and create a varied surface structure. The exhibition includes a work with 15 lancets made of blue and green stones such as lapis lazuli, azurite and malachite. They hang 10 cm from the wall from the ceiling of the gallery space. The installation manifests itself as a moving sculpture, after initially appearing as a large picture.
Alfred Haberpointner chops, cuts and burns traces into his starting material, the wood. He carves objects such as cones, spheres, cylinders, ovals, cubes and even oversized, stylized heads directly out of the trunk. They are all given a rough surface structure. Color plays a particularly important role in his group of panel paintings. Haberpointner is interested in opening up the surface, in the play of light on the surfaces treated with stains and acrylic paints.
Martin Lehmer layers strips of broken MDF on top of each other, creating picture surfaces of extraordinary plasticity and presence. The black MDF he uses creates velvety structures at the fragile broken edges due to its texture. The light is both absorbed and reflected by the black picture surface, which only initially appears monochrome. The reduction to the “achromatic color” black leads to an elementary art experience.
