Rakuko Naito was born in Tokyo, Japan. She lives and works in New York City, NY, USA.

Rakuko Naito focuses on the properties of paper, whether rolled, folded, crumpled, torn, layered or slightly singed. The forms, edges and texture of the paper itself are elements of her artistic work, which she shapes into its final form with her unique vision and sense of order. She uses the finest papers of various origins in her creations and presents them in neutral, white boxes. Her most recent large-scale work shows the complex layering of tiny, folded pieces of paper with gently burnt edges.
