Bim Koehler was born in 1949 in Kassel, Germany. He lives and works in Spiesheim / Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany.
In dealing with color fields in painting Koehler seeks out borders again and again – the dissolution of the pictorial space and the use of innovative and traditional materials have led to new results. Consistently new pictorial statements have been developed on the basis of geometrical starting points and endless layers of paint.
“Bim Koehler is a magician of color, a painter who seeks to investigate and uncover the secrets of color. In his quest to render visible the aura of color, he has experimented with a variety of supports, such as wood, acrylic glass, hand-made paper and, most recently, mechanical pulp paperboard from Finland. His fascinating images let the viewer participate in his color experiments, creating an effect which prompts the artist to comment with resigned enthusiasm: “Color does what it wants with you”.”
